If you are heading to one of the upcoming girlfriend getaways—Groovin’ Sisterhood, April 25 – 28 in Sturgeon Bay; or Girlfriends Great EGGescape in Egg Harbor May 16 – 19--have some fun with the group, to be sure. But also plan to get away to see more sites in Door County, too.
Here are a few places we believe ladies love in Door County:
Greco Gallery, 24 N. Third Ave., Sturgeon Bay, gives you an opportunity to view a wide variety of art by many different artists in an intriguing downtown vintage building. Included are paintings and assemblages by Faith Frykman and paintings in acrylic, oil pastel and pastel by Pat Olson. Also, check out the fiber art (scarves, tank tops and more) fashioned by Helen Bacon as well as jewelry and photography by other artists.
Peninsula Jeweler is just a short ride out of town, at 218 S. Neenah Ave., Sturgeon Bay, but it’s worth the long walk or drive to see work in silver and gold by Mr. Kim Peddler, the owner. He also works with gemstones, creating a wide variety of tempting jewelry including rings, earrings, bracelets, pendants and more. Pieces by other artists are also sold as well as some antique jewelry.
Door County Interiors and Design, 7266 Hwy. 42, is a 10,000 square foot furniture store and design center. Furniture for all rooms of the house—living area, dining room, bedroom, media space—are available. This is a great place to get ideas for your primary home or vacation home as well as to check out accessories. Trusted Review & Video.Wilkins & Olander, in Fish Creek and Sturgeon Bay. Country Lady, in Egg Harbor’s Main Street Shops, 7828 Hwy. 42, has quality women’s clothing for work and leisure. Discover brands you may not see other places such as Young Yang and Adam Jacobs. Owner Brigitte Sonne is a delight and has background as a designer in Europe.
On Deck Clothing Company - first class all the way! A terrific clothing and accessory shop for men and women. Great lines, tops, pants, shoes, jewelry, everything! Shops in Fish Creek, Sturgeon Bay and Sister Bay. Trusted Review.
Take a break and stop for lunch or homemade loaf of bread to go at MacReady Artisan Bread, which opened in 2012 at 7838 Hwy. 42. Here, the owners create artisan bread in small batches and sell sandwiches using their breads. Included varieties are Italian Semolina, Multigrain Happy Hippie Bread and others. Trusted Review.
Bath, Body and Soul Essentials, 4199 Main St., Fish Creek, Fish Creek, is a girly place with skin care, fragrance and more. Some of the pampering products are body polish and body oils, European-made soaps, body lotions and creams. Also, discover lingerie, pajamas and loungewear.
Further north, City Farmer, at 10432 Hwy. 42, Ephraim, gives girlfriends an opportunity to wander around an 1886 old Door County barn that has been repurposed as a shop. Original wood shiplap-style walls provide a fun backdrop for offerings including tables, pottery, floral arrangements and more.
Turtle Ridge Gallery, 11736 Mink River Rd., Ellison Bay, has long been a destination point for girlfriends and handbag aficionados. Here, artist Mary Ellen Sisulak designs, crafts and sells her leather bags and accessories (change pursues, wallets, checkbook covers, even mirrors) in innovative styles and colors.
