About Peninsula State Park: This is a fabulous park – the largest State Park in Door County.  It is simply beautiful for camping, biking, hiking or just driving through, stopping and walking.  And Eagle Bluff Lighthouse has a marvelous story about it – take the tour if you have the chance.

DOOR COUNTY TROLLEY TOURS

Take an "Old Time" Trolley ride and see breathtaking vistas from Door County 's scenic bluffs overlooking the islands. As we traverse the land, we'll share the legend and lore unique to each area. Don't forget to bring your camera! SEGWAY PERSONAL TRANSPORTER TOUR - PENINSULA STATE PARK
Dates of event: 6/5/08 to 8/5/08
Looking for a unique way to see the sights of Door County? How about on the two wheels of a Segway Personal Transporter? After a half hour training on the Segway PT, we will glide up and down hills through Peninsula State Park for about 1 1/2 hours. FARMER’S MARKET– STURGEON BAY

Easiest way to get there from the north: Take Hwy 42 south to the Sturgeon Bay Business District: 57/42 – take a right there.  You will pass the Neighborhood Pub (stop in and eat – great food!), Wal-Mart, and a lot of other stuff.  Go the speed limit.  When you hit Hardee’s, take a left and you will be heading to the main section of downtown Sturgeon Bay.   You will be on Jefferson Street – take it to 3rd (the main street in downtown Sturgeon Bay and turn left).  Take that past Younkers, etc. to Michigan St. and take a left – you will hit 4th in 1 block!  Have fun.

Fabulous – we love it!  This is a must - one of the best bargains in Door County!  You must check out their schedule, but the place itself is spectacular!  The concerts take place in an old barn on what used to be a farm – it is as rustic as it gets, but the acoustics are fine, the experience awesome!  After you park your car in the large parking field, you walk over and see the gazebo outside the barn – and some of the musicians are warming up and jamming prior to the actual concert – this alone is worth it!  The musicians are students from all over (mostly from the Midwest) who are learning and honing their skills with music teachers who spend the summer at Birch Creek and teach (some come from as far away as upstate New York).  Students live there on the grounds for about 2 weeks at a time, and then new students come in.  It is truly a wonderful learning experience for the students, and they put on wonderful concerts for us all!  At intermission, you can stroll the grounds, but some popcorn, coffee of pop, a Birch Creek tee shirt or sweat, and stroll through the barn too – back around the left side where the practice rooms are, and where students are busy refining their craft!

On a starry night, it just doesn’t get any better!  They have a variety of music throughout the season, so see the schedule here on the Calendar of Events, or visit their website – from percussion, to Caribbean island music to swing!  It is an experience you will not forget – and if you bring friends to this, they will think you are the best and know the best places!  We have never had a bad experience here, and we have gone for years!  We highly recommend this – it is truly wonderful!

DOOR COUNTY BLUEGRASS CAMP- SESSION 1 – ELLISON BAY
Dates of Event: 6/29/08 – 7/4/08
Camp sessions are held at the Wagon Trail Resort.  Visit beautiful Door County and play music at the same time. Five full days of expert instruction, jamming, and fun. Bluegrass camp will focus on building instrumental skills for the experienced beginner through advanced player. Each day will include morning and afternoon classes on your instrument, plus a variety of workshops. Instrumental instruction will include bluegrass bass, guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, small group playing and jamming. Limit 10 students.  (Session 2: 8/3/08 – 8/8-08)  www.doorcountybluegrass.com

The fireworks for Egg Harbor are on the 3rd again this year ! 
Pack a picnic sack and head out to the park before dark to get a good spot!  And, if it is the same this year, the fireworks are fired off to the left as you face the water – so position yourself accordingly!  Everyone thinks it will be directly over the water- nope!  Just a tip.

4TH OF JULY PARADE - EGG HARBOR

Ladies and gentlemen, and children of all ages!  This is a fun parade!  You can catch it a few hours earlier in Baileys Harbor usually, or catch it in Egg Harbor – we like Egg Harbor the best – get yourself a nice spot on the curb, and watch this substantial parade with antique autos, horses, sometime llamas, clowns, and all kinds of costumes, flags and marching bands!  It’s the Music Man all over again, and fun for kids (who love to collect the wrapped candy that is tossed from a variety of parade vehicles) and adults too!  Fun!

20TH ANNUAL ART ON THE QUIET SIDE - JACKSONPORT

There are artists from all over the place, displaying things from metal and iron works of art, to jewelry, to hand-painted clothing, to beautiful wooden chests, to magnificent photographs and original watercolors by local artists like Stacey Small, Karen Anderson and more.  Art for the home, art for the body, art for the soul!  Walk around eating a sandwich and enjoy!  We have usually ended up making a purchase at this event – there is always something that grabs your eye, and your wallet!  But the items are reasonable priced, and, again, this outdoor event on a warm summer day is ideal!  Spend an hour or two – you will enjoy!  And if you are in town for a while, the Town Hall Bakery, at 6225 Hwy 57 in Jacksonport is a terrific place for lunch!  We like this event a lot – and there’s always some good music too!  Visit Cave Point while in the area!

4th  Annual Door County Triathlon

The fourth annual Door County Triathlon will take place at 8 AM at Murphy Park just south of Egg Harbor.  The triathlon offers two very distinct course options in both distance and degree of difficulty: the short “SPRINT” course (1/4 mi swim, 18 mi bike, 3.1 mi run) and the challenging long “HALF IRON” course (1.2 mi swim, 56 mi bike and 13.1 mi run). ANNUAL K/D SALMON TOURNAMENT

Participating ports include Sturgeon Bay, Baileys Harbor, Washington Island, Algoma and Kewaunee. Over $40,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the anglers who catch the biggest fish each day at all five weigh-in sites. Tickets are $25 for the entire tournament and $13 for one day.
