Activities : Art Galleries
In the gallery you will find paintings in oils, watercolors, and acrylics that cover various subject matter from landscapes, Door County settings, people at beaches, still lifes, nostalgic moments, sunny scenes from the Canary Islands and a whole lot more. Each piece of original artwork beckons you to enjoy - you are drawn into the beautiful scenes that Ellen paints, like the winter scene picture above Ellen's shoulder in the photo above. You see that she truly paints "what makes me happy." When you examine the wedding painting in the same photo above, but above Karsten's right shoulder, you are tempted to throw rice, or applaud the bride and groom as they exit the church!
Karsten's work is equally alluring - in fact, we own two of his pieces, a still life of fruits on a table - the watermelon looks like you can eat it - and a bright and cheerful painting of a building with an ornate wooden covered porch in the Canary Islands. He works mostly in watercolors and oils, and the subject matter he treats could easily find a home in most anyone's décor. If you are into art, stop in the Hanseatic Art Gallery in Ephraim for a real treat, and meet the artists themselves who operate the gallery from 2 - 5PM everyday except Sunday from Memorial Day through the end of October. You can always call them, and they can set up a time to meet you in the gallery, as they live close by. Don't forget to go upstairs too - see if "Grandmother's Teacups" is still up there - a stunning painting of antique teacups resting on lace - gorgeous!
There are many talented artists, and many galleries in Door County, but the Hanseatic is a delight because of the charming artists themselves, and because of the captivating art they have created! |
