The Spirit of LaSalle is a 2007 addition to the ferry and cruise tour services in Door County, offering daily Ferry service from Sturgeon Bay (from the Stone Harbor Resort Dock) across one of the most beautiful sections of the Bay of Green Bay . . . passing by Sherwood Point Lighthouse / Green Island and then onto the Waterfront district of Menominee, Michigan. In Menominee you will find shopping, restaurants and, beaches, parks museums and a nearby zoo that has the second largest “Big Cat” collection in North America!
We spoke with Robert Ruleau, who owns the line, and he was excited to let al the folks coming to Door County or wanting to come to Door County know about his ferry and tour services. Spirit of LaSalle also offers “Afternoon Sightseeing” and “Evening Sunset Cruises” from both Sturgeon Bay & Menominee sides. What a fun option for the folks in Michigan and for Door County visitors to take a tour, or cross to Michigan for part of the day. The ferries are for people and bikes only (no cars). For crossing times, visit their website. They offer two different ferry boats, the Spirit of LaSalle and the Isle Royal Queen. The Spirit is a 115 foot, 2-deck boat that can hole 149 passengers, and crosses in 70 minutes. The Isle is an 80 footer that can ferry 100 passengers in about 90 minutes. ToursFor the latest touring information (routes etc. can change without notice), visit their website. In general, from Menominee, you can head out to the Menominee Light, red Arrow Park, Seagull Bar, the Peshtigo Shoal Light, Green Island, and also see the shoreline of Menominee. From Sturgeon Bay, take tour # 1 and you’ll see the Bay Ship Building yard, Potawatomi State Park, the Sherwood Point Light and the west shores of the Door Peninsula. Take Tour # 2 and see the Sturgeon Bay Harbor, the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal, Coast Guard Station, Canal Light, Robert LaSalle Park, and the eastern shores of Door County.
