Food/Dining : Jacksonport

Mike's Port Pub and Grill

6269 Hwy 57
Jacksonport

We stopped for lunch at a small, unassuming pub in Jacksonport.  A small place, with 4 wooden booths, and several tables and a bar to the right as you walk in, the place offers lunch and dinners, has a few game machines like electronic darts, and just good food!  A few ceiling fans, and small, pubby atmosphere make this an interesting little stop.

We met with Mike after lunch to tell him we were reviewing his place - great down-to-earth guy.  He also owns the Innlet Motel, right next door, which is very nice.

The simple menu includes munchies, like cheese curds (of course!), jalapeno poppers, onion rings and the usual fare.  You can get "baskets' with chicken fingers, wings (hot or regular), shrimp, scallops, etc.  Chili was also available as well as whatever the soup happens to be for the day.

This is a fish fry place, and according to Mike, it gets packed for Friday fish frys.  As a tip, get here before 5 PM, or after 9PM (you still have an hour to get served) to avoid the fish-fry-crowd!  Otherwise, you’ll wait and have to relax at the bar (not bad either).  The offerings: deep fried perch, catfish, walleye, redfish, Pollock, whitefish, cod or you can get a combo platter!  Childs portions are available.  Quite a selection!

Other dinners include, half a broasted chicken, open face tenderloin, rib eye (12 ounces), a grilled tuna steak, deep-fried cod, scallops, etc.

For lunch, one of us had the tenderloin sandwich (which was very tender and flavorful), served with chips, and a side salad.  The other dish was a ribeye sandwich, which was also very good, juicy and flavorful.  The horseradish sauce was spicy and delicious.  Other sandwich offerings include beef, mushroom or cheese burgers, a "boxcar" (which was a cheeseburger and a brat), fishburgers, pork cutlet, grilled chicken, hot dogs, chili dogs and more!  Plenty of munchies and things for the kids as well.

The bar was stocked with a variety of hard liquors and lots of domestic beers, and importeds like Becks, Sam Adams, Corona, Garten Brau, and Heineken.

It's a local hangout and you will always find families enjoying quality food at reasonable prices.   It is a real Door County tavern where a good time is virtually guaranteed.  The service is, as you would expect in a first class joint like Mike's, very helpful, friendly and on time.  They have some of the best daily specials, like the pork roast special, which is out of this world and the favorite of another of our reviewers.

Hey, we liked this little place.  It's a bar and restaurant combined, so you get all that comes with that, but the food was very good!  We'll have to try a fish fry.  Navigate your way to Mike's Port Pub and Grill - and tell Mike where you found him!
