Food/Dining : Ephraim
The Old Post Office Restaurant
10040 Water St
Ephraim
920-854-4034
Breakfast and Dinners (Fish Boils)
Open May - October
This is an historic building, built in the late 1800s when you could only access Ephraim by water, docking at the Anderson Dock. It was Peter Petersons General Store, and in the early 1900s the Ephraim Post Office was located at the rear of the store. Now, it has been transformed into the Old Post Office Restaurant, which boasts a magnificent view of the blue waters of Ephraims Eagle Harbor. The main room, as you enter, has white wainscoting, and blue and white checked wallpaper with a cherry border along the ceiling line very peaceful and cute. Solid wicker chairs accompany all the tables. There is a cupboard stocked with homemade jellies, cherry and sailboat dishtowels, fanciful paper plates and tablecloths all for sale.
The menu delivers a selection from Letter Opener Juices, Priority Fruits, Express Mail Eggs, Post Office Omelettes, and Mailman Muffins to P.O. Box Beverages! Standard fair includes omelettes of cheddar cheese, or ham and cheese, or a vegetable combo. A full-stack of pancakes with an egg will cost only $5.00 a bargain! You can get Bulk Rate Cherry of Blueberry pancakes as well, of Special Delivery Yogurt & Cereal! Sides of crispy bacon, sausage links, corned beef hash or ham round out the menu.
Fish Boils are served Monday Saturday, and even on Sundays on holiday weekends but reservations are requested for the fish boils. The fish boil dinners include Lake Michigan whitefish, small red potatoes, little white onions, homemade breads of lemon, pumpkin and rye, and fresh baked Door County cherry pie!
We found the food very good, the prices very reasonable, and the view fabulous! Try to get a table near the front of the building in either room so you can get a good view of the water.
