Food/Dining : Gills Rock
We, and many locals and visitors, like this place! So read on! When you approach The Shoreline Restaurant, right on the water, it looks like a Cape Cod building fitting naturally into the landscape. Open from May – October each year, this delightful restaurant is right on the water in Gills Rock, at the very tip of the Door Peninsula! The view is magnificent, as you watch the sun setting or waves breaching the rocks! And the food is as good as the view!
House salads included the classic chef, a taco salad grande - lettuce topped with home style chili and shredded cheese, black olives, guacamole and sour cream and a crab salad bowl, which is lettuce topped with crab salad! Deli Baskets are offered, like
"Homemade soups” are awesome Whitefish chowder - this was delicious - the bowl was stuffed full of whitefish, spicy potatoes and corn, and all nicely seasoned.
Here are also grilled sandwiches in creative combos like a chicken Miablo with caramelized onions and jalapenos and more. Fresh fish specialties include a wonderful smoked whitefish wrap – this was excellent! Two large wraps were presented, stuffed with chives, dill, sweet peppers, and green scallions – whose tails were sticking out one end the wrap! The presentation was tempting, and food even better! Fresh fruit accompanied the wrap, like watermelon, cantaloupe, and Champaign (tiny and sweet) grapes. I want another one! We also had a Lake Michigan Whitefish sandwich – our reviewer’s comments – “this is worth the ride!” There’s also a kid’s menu – this is a family-friendly place! DINNER – 5PM - Close The dinner menu offered a nice selection of fish and meats, including nightly specials, and fresh fish like broiled Lake Michigan whitefish, whitefish Roma and other preparations of whitefish. Hey, the menu says right on the front: “Eat the Whitefish” and we think you should! They know how to prepare it in many ways! Other offerings include broiled, garlic, or golden fried chicken chicken, a rib eye steak, NY strip with a pepper rub and specials everyday from “Price Edward Island Salmon” to “Shoreline’s Seafood Platter.” It's a kid-friendly place – on one occasion we dined with two children and all enjoyed our meals. We’ve also had other sandwiches from the menu. Portions are nice, food always very, very good! Lots of locals dine here and love it - which is always a good sign! We think you would find the restaurant to be a very good experience, and the view simply fantastic. It's up in Gills Rock - so it's a drive (“worth it”) from Egg Harbor and points south, and is closest to Ellison Bay and Sister Bay. But you have to go to the "tip" of the peninsula - the views from up here are awesome, the seagulls entertaining, and the restaurant super! So make the trip - it's fun! And you can always take the ferry to Washington Island from here too (passengers only). Visit their website now for more information, and please make sure you tell them you found them on DoorCountyNavigator.com (and our sister site, DoorCountyDining.com)!
