With the new ownership taking over in Spring 2003, Manz Specialty Foods is undergoing some very cool transformations. The inside of the shop is completely redesigned and provides ample open space and new shelf arrangements that make it a pleasure to shop. The patio area is now a great place to sit, eat your lunch, and watch the passer-byers. You’ll be able to do this even in September and October, as they will have the tall gas powered heaters which will be very nice, extending your dining pleasure out of doors well into the Fall! Observing the customers in the shop, we can tell you they think the new retail lay is first rate and a delight. We agree – it’s bright, open and easy!

Located in the Country Walk Shops in Sister Bay, off to the left as you enter the parking lot, Top Shelf Café and Gourmet is easy to get to and worth the trip – even if you do it through their website or the phone!

Specialty Foods
Top Shelf carries just about the entire alphabet of cheeses from Asiago to Swiss and everything in between (like Cambozola, Danish Blue, Feta Fondue, Gouda, Havarti, Mascarpone (hey make some Tiramisu for us!), Pepperjack and Sage Derby. And you will find fresh Brie in 6 different varieties. Look around and you’ll discover 80 kinds of cheese here – unbelievable!

All kinds of coffee beans,flavored/unflavored, caffeinated/decaffeinated, and a good selection of teas are available.

Sauces. You will find a huge selection of all kinds of sauces, from hot sauces to glazing sauces. How about sauces like apricot curry, balsamic glazing, maple chipotle, Moroccan herb marinade or Tamarind plum ginger? Yes – they are all here.

Also, you will find horseradish sauce, cranberry horseradish, Wasabi line mustard, mole mustard, honey bourbon mustard, Provencal garlic mayo, chutney for cheese and chutney for meat – wow. And prepared spices for any cooking need.

Oils. Specialty oils for cooking and grilling like lemon zest grape seed, sesame and Sante Fe chili grape seed are all here waiting for you; bread dipping oils like roasted tomato basil (awesome!), oregano and garlic, or Asiago cheese. And match it up with vinegar of your choice including malt, balsamic, Champagne, tarragon, white wine and more. And there are hot sauces everywhere – every degree you can imagine.

Pastas. A large selection of pastas and grains like bulgar, couscous and even Irish Oatmeal also tempt you. You can purchase specialty pastas like vegetarian spirolina seaweed, or vegetarian spirolina & curry spaghetti. And chili beans of all kinds too. Into oriental cooking? Then you will find Chinese cooking rice wine, Thai hot and sour noodles, rices of all kinds (even for risotto), spicy peanut sauce (like for a satay)( and even pad Thai stir fry sauce.

Canned Treats. Large selection of specialty canned goods, like “real turtle soup” or “Eastern shore clam chowder.” Ymmm.

Fresh Olives. Who even knew there are over 20 varieties, and they are right here, from Italian and stuffed varieties like Habanero, Garlic, Mandarin Orange and Gorgonzola to Kalamata – all packaged to order.

The Deli Case. Meats and sausages from Italian salami, pancetta, Parma di Proscuitto (the best), New York Strip, turkey, and ham, and about 6 different kinds of pate made by an ex-pat Frenchman, fresh and cut to order. And the 80 cheeses too. Pre-made sandwiches, cold pasta salads that you can take and eat outside, breads baked throughout the day really round out the offerings! Wow!

Wines and Liquors. There’s an awesome collection of wines here from $60 Bordeauxs to $5 Greek wines, and just about everything in between – even Door County Cherry. You will see about 150 wines on display on their own custom built, upright wine shelves – great display, easy to find what you are looking for. Think of a liquor you might need from single malt Scotches, top shelf vodkas like Van Gogh, Pimm’s and Reposado tequila - you will find it all! An unbelievable collection!

Yes, you can also pick up preserves, honey syrup (from both Wisconsin and Vermont), a variety of crackers, flat breads and biscuits, apple butter, Nutella, prepared fruits like brandied cherries or Medjool Dates, nuts, pastry ingredients (like orange or rose flower water!).

And yes, you can pick up roasted peppers, artichoke hearts, dried mushrooms, heart of palm, white asparagus and a whole lot more. And you can even pick up some fine domestic or imported s too. And baking goods, candies and gourmet cookies tempt you too!

Want to cook something special at home? There is a frozen case where you can pick up a little lobster tail, smoked bacon, ribeye filets, NY strip, rabbit, lamb chops, duck breast and even lamb barley soup.

We loved this place while it was under the old ownership, for years. And now it looks to be even better!
