Food/Dining : Sturgeon Bay

Donny’s Glidden Lodge Restaurant
4676 Glidden Dr.
Sturgeon Bay
920-746-9460

DONNY'S GLIDDEN LODGE RESTAURANT opened last year under the astute management of Don and Rita Zellner at the quintessential up north-like lodge setting. It is one of those places you go to for the setting alone, and enjoy the dining as well. In this case, both the view and the food are great!

The lodge itself must date back at least to the early thirties. You feel right at home the moment you get out of your car and smell the smoke from the warming fire that greets you at the front door. Lots of cedar and pine log con-struction, and real beams on the ceiling make this an architectural delight right on the Lake Michigan Shore at Glidden Drive. To get there from Egg Harbor just take "T" all the way. Go to Valmy and go east to the lake, past the Log Cabin Tavern (another classic treat) to Glidden Drive, then another mile or so.

The brunch is complete and plentiful; a few German dishes.... always a little sauerkraut! Donny makes waffles and fabulous potato pancakes to order while Rita is busy keeping the platters full of everything from chicken and tips to eggs benedict. Make sure you get a table by a window so you can watch the seagulls at the shore a few feet away. Some of you might have met the affable Zellners before. For many years, they owned the famous Alaskan Inn near Algoma.

So, treat yourself to a view and a great meal – especially Sunday Brunches!
