Food/Dining : Sturgeon Bay

Scaturo's Bakery and Café
19 Green Bay Road
Sturgeon Bay
920-746-8727

What a nice little find!  This combination restaurant and bakery was a delightful stop on our way into Door County.  If you are coming up Hwy 42 towards Sturgeon Bay, exit at Hwy 57 Business District, and within a mile, you will see Scaturo's on the right hand side of the road.

It's a charming, little building.  We pulled in right in front, and walked in to a nice little café - a small counter right in front of us, the bakery to the left and the restaurant seating area to the right.  Very country- ish in decor with simple furnishing.  We had a delightful cup of Door county Coffee Company coffee (see our review) and a couple of pastries - this is a very fine bakery!

The restaurant starts about 6 in the morning, Monday - Saturday, and 7 AM on Sundays.   From omelets around the world to French toast, and of course pastries, you can have a great breakfast.  How about an Eastern Omelet, with Swiss, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and ham? Sicilian comes packed with provolone, Italian sausage, peppers, onions, tomatoes and mushrooms - sounds tempting to me!  Western and Mexican are also available, as well as quiches.

Their standard menu includes specialties, like Italian Wedding Soup (one of my favorites) and Turkey and White Bean Chili!  A variety of salads and daily specials like pot roast Mondays, lasagna Tuesdays, beef stew Thursdays round out a rather complete menu offering.

Home style plates like spaghetti and meatballs, turkey tettrazzini, meatloaf (which looked delicious as it passed us by), roasted pork bordelaise and pastas of the day really complete the dinner fare.

Sandwiched from Italian hoagies, one called The Godfather (can you refuse this one?) and vegetarian delights, reubens, roast beef, and The Mob (turkey roast beef and ham, with Swiss and Colby cheese - hey, it IS a mob!) really make for a nice selection.

Stop in for a Sunday Brunch, which they call the Bay's Best Sunday Brunch - we have not had it so can't comment on it being the best!

Desserts like homemade cherry pies and torts, cappucinnos, Tazo teas can complete the meal for you.  And, they have a kid's menu too (that they call Little Paisans for 10 and under) which includes pastas, mac and cheese, and chicken rings - not bad!

We enjoyed discovering this little place and we think you would like it too.  Their menu says Breakfast, Lunch and Early Dinner  - so check the time if you plan to head out for dinner there.
