Carraig Mor Cottage June 2007 special for Carraig Mor Cottage at $1500/week and Carraig Beag available for $1300/week until the end of June 2007. Must book it and use the homes in June 2007. After June, please call for other specials Carraig Mor Cottage is a lovely two-story cottage, just up the road from the Blue Ox in Baileys Harbor. The yard and garden area are magnificent – gorgeous landscaping, flowers (in season) and the chiseled bluffs that Door County is famous for – all in your yard! The garden was once on the Wisconsin Home & Garden show. And in case you are wondering, Carraig Mor means “big rock” in Gaelic, an appropriate name for the cottage because of the stone and bluffs that abound. When you step into this three-bedroom home, you will find a comfortable seating area to your right, with a large couch, a couple of easy chairs and coffee table sitting atop a leafy area rug. Beautiful art graces the walls, and the natural birch and oak floors throughout the first floor are wonderful and add a nostalgic elegance to the home.
The kitchen overlooks the porch and garden and sports a large granite-topped island with a 5 burner cook top. The island can accommodate 8 – 10 people to gather around and talk, sit. The counters are of the same granite, and the kitchen is complete with dishwasher, glassware, dishes and more. A baker’s rack is snuggled up against one of the walls. Enter the cozy living room, which has a peaked pine-board ceiling which contrasts charmingly with the deep red walls, and floral couch and loveseat inviting you to sit and unwind. A fieldstone fireplace, and bookshelf with TV, DVD player and games lend thoughts to easy times. French doors lead from the living room to a covered porch. Just off the living room is a powder room, with an antique primitive-style vanity, and oval scalloped basin, an oval mirror with tulip-painted wooden surround hangs over the basin. Also, folding doors house a washer and dryer for your convenience. The BedroomsUpstairs is wall-to-wall carpeted, and is where you will find the three bedrooms of Carraig Mor Cottage. At the top of the stairs to the right is a full bath with shower/tub, and dark, mahogany-colored antique dressing table with mirror and the vanity with oval basin (very unusual and refined). A skylight lets in the natural light of a beautiful Door County day! Note that all of the bedrooms have ceiling fans.
The second bedroom has a full and a twin bed (a nice option for kids), with floral patchwork quilts, white, wooden sleigh bed style frames, and a center nightstand and coordinating carpet. There is a lovely view of the water of the bay from both windows. The third bedroom, with blue walls, sports a full and twin bed also, with bold comforters in greens, burgundies and purples. An antique rocker finishes off this room. It overlooks the main road (Bluff) and water across Highways 57. For this home, you need to bring your own sheets, pillow cases and towels. Everything else is provided.
