Places to Stay : Ellison Bay

Wagon Trail Campground
1190 Hwy ZZ
Ellison Bay
920-854-4818

Situated on over 70 wooded acres, within walking distance to Lake Michigan, Wagon Trail Campground offers 140 camping and RV sites, and even offers camping cabins and Yurts!

You are on the north end of the peninsula here, and you will be in the quiet and tranquility of Door County.  Wagon Trail Campgrounds offers a separate tenting area, and even three very secluded tent sites.  All the RV sites have a 50 amp hook-up with water, and full hook-ups and pull throughs are avaialble too.

If you want cabins, they have camping cabins too.  We have noticed over the years that camping cabins seem to be getting more and more popular.   These are simple 2 room cabins with a double bed in one room, and 2 sets of bunks in the other, sleeping up to six.  Electricity in the cabin, water at the site, small covered porch, picnic table outside.  No kitchens or bathrooms, so grill your meals at the fire ring outside, and use the first rate bathroom facilities at the campgrounds.  More later.   Bring your own bed linens.  It’s camping, protected by a woodsy shelter all around you!

Now, if you want something unique and new, try a Yurt!  We have to admit, we were unfamiliar with Yurts until now!  They are circular in shape, and the owners tell us that they originated with the Mongolian culture.  About 16 feet in diameter, with a skylight, door, a double bed with a single bunk above it, and a separate set of bun beds, you can sleep 5 in the Yurt!  Electricity to the Yurt is provided, and water is on the site.  No kitchens or bathrooms here either, and bring your own bed linens.  There’s a picnic table outside and a fire ring for your grilling pleasure.

Rest Rooms.  Well, with camping, everyone wants to know how the bathrooms are.  Wagon Trail Campgrounds brag about their rest room facilities and so do the guests.  The guests tell the owners all the time how clean they are kept, and appreciate the little things like the hand soap, showers with shampoo, removable handheld shower heads, plenty of hooks and more.  Heated, and the showers are free to guest!

Other niceties on the grounds are a laundry facility; picnic tables and fire rings at each site, a campground store with ice, wood, LP gas, and limited groceries; free WiFi in the main building if you must commune with something other than nature; a game room for the kids and an adult sitting room complete with fireplace.  There are walking trails, a shallow sandy beach nearby, restaurants and bakery at the Wagon Trail Resort and more.  You like fishing?  Well, they even have a fish cleaning table and limited freezer space for your catch.

"We wanted to tell you that your campground is the NICEST we have stayed at in our 35 years of camping. We have been all over the U.S. and Canada and we have never experienced such nice big sites and beautiful restrooms.  We even took pictures to show the family back home.  Keep up the good work and we hope to camp with you again someday."

Notice the rest rooms comment too!  Well, if you like camping, you have about every option you can have right here at the Wagon Trail Campground, from tent sites, to RV hook-ups, to camping cabins and , yes, even Yurts!  Check out their website right now for mote info and rates.
