Stone Harbor is a unique resort in Door County, with a large selection of accommodations to fit just about everyone's needs. From hotel rooms with balconies, to deluxe loft suites, Stone Harbor has something for you, and a variety of price points. And, Stone Harbor houses Stone Harbor Restaurant -a wonderful first-class restaurant overlooking the waters of Sturgeon Bay. So read on!

We were very impressed with the overall view and surrounding grounds at Stone Harbor. Some of the rooms have spectacular Sturgeon Bay water views, and views of the old bridge too. For a resort with not only 161 available rooms or suites, but fully equipped conference facilities as well, Stone Harbor creates a cozy atmosphere with a combination of color, and fine details. The staff that greeted us was friendly and helpful.

We toured representative rooms and suites to get a good feel for the place, and again, were very pleased with the accommodations, color treatments, and nice touches throughout. Even the hallways were well lit, but with a soft, golden glow light unlike many you see. The walls were creamy, earthy and soft beige, which added to the softness of these passageways, while the metal copper light fixtures added additional softness.

The Accommodations

All the suites have whirlpool tubs and fireplaces.

First, we looked at a 2-Bedroom Loft Suite, which was wonderful. Suite # 363 overlooks the bridge and Sturgeon Bay waters. A private balcony overlooks the shoreline and water, and the balcony is accessible from the living room, and the master bedroom - nice touch. A wrought-iron queen bed, distressed wood tables, a wonderful plaid couch with complementary side chairs which flank the fireplace, and a bath with shower finish off the downstairs. Of course, there is a kitchen too. But there's more! The upstairs loft also has a wrought iron bed frame, white wicker chairs, TV, bath and more. This is a very nice suite, which we think just about anyone would enjoy! Especially great for two couples. All done in soft earth tones. There are only 4 units like this, so hurry!

The One-Bedroom Deluxe Loft Suite (#237) offered a queen bed upstairs in the loft, and a downstairs of a cushy plaid queen sofa sleeper, wood-slat blinds, a balcony with a courtyard view, a table and four wooden chairs with fabric-covered seats, a kitchenette, complete with utensils and a coffeemaker too. Room # 341, had a queen bed brown carpeting, a ceiling fan, a TV in the corner that you can see from the bed, green distressed-wood nightstands, a chest of drawers, wicker chair and more. A full bath with double whirlpool, as well as a standing shower were also nice touches.

We next looked at a One-Bedroom Suite, of which there are 8. This is just like the first floor of the 2 bedroom loft suite - very well done.

And there is so much more! This is a grand place, from the impressive stonewall exterior, to the interiors, we were pleased with what we saw, all the way through.

Excellent amenities like both interior and exterior heated pools, and a genuine sauna where you can pour the hot water over the steaming hot rocks can really pamper your stay. The inside poolroom has a massive, vaulted ceiling and an interesting copper/red granite floor - it is truly a magnificent room. Large windows on three sides provide views of the Sturgeon Bay shipping canal and Palmer Johnson's yacht building facilities. The pool ranged in depth from 3 to 5 feet, while a 20-person hot tub awaits your tired body. Lounge chairs, tables and regular chairs provide comfortable seating for lounging poolside. The locker room is handicap accessible, and plenty of lockers offer the convenient storage options while swimming. There is also an exercise room for your good health.

Again, there is so much here. Outside, a public walkway is accessible, and stretches along the waters of the canal - very pretty, especially at night.

Conferences, Conferences

Wow - if you're a business and want a productive venue, try the Stone Harbor Conference Center, which can accommodate up to 350 people. Want it catered? Stone Harbor can do that. This conference center is fully equipped with the latest technology in audiovisual equipment, multiple screen capacity for displaying simultaneously, a private reception area and more.

They will address your individual needs, so ask. There is also a boardroom on the third floor, which can be used for special meetings, and it too is equipped with a large LCD screen, projector, VCR and laptop hookups and more too. Nice view of the Bay.

Wow! And, remember, there's a first-class restaurant too! Read our separate review of Stone Harbor Restaurant
