Shops : Egg Harbor We met with the owners of the Mistletoe for a short while as we wandered about the shop, which is located in an attractive gingerbread-looking type house off of Hwy 42. You think the shop is small from the road, but it is surprisingly large when you get inside and see the entire room to the left. Each room is packed with goodies - and, quite frankly, with goodies we have not really seen a 100 times in other shops. From Christmas to Halloween, there was a treasure awaiting everyone who walked in. What's different about this shop? The merchandise! It's different! We also had a nice chat with Jan Lautenbach and Heidi Meyer, the shop owners! If you like snowmen, for example, this is a shop for you. There are snowmen of every size and shape with a variety of accessories, from brooms to scarves and hats. We think if you are into snowmen, you will delight in the selection and will have to find one you will just adore. On the ornament front, no Christopher Radko, Old World or Polonaise ornaments. This shop has more of a country Christmas kind of feel to it - with tons of non-glass ornaments. There are dozens and dozens of resin ornaments in every shape imaginable... fish, kids, snowmen - all very cute. There are sparkly, thick icicles that hang from the branches, wooden ornaments, and even plastic. There is one "crystal" tree of all crystal-clear plastic ornaments in the shapes of rocking horses, snowflakes, Christmas trees and lots more - all catching the light in thousands of spots. One tree had a ton of cardinals, another was done up in a cooking motif with cookie cutters, trays, rolling pins and a ton of other items. There is another tree with sparkling disco-ball - types ornaments in every color - we had not seen these before. And there is a tree in the middle of the side room hung with hundreds of glass ornaments - and I might add, in the price range of $7 - $16 a piece - which is far less than some lines for sure. We purchased a beautiful 8" Santa, with a 3-dimensional sparkling trimmed robe, excellent detailing in the painting and mold work that we had never seen before! And it was $12.95, which is a lot less than many similar ornaments of the more popular lines we have seen, and with wonderful craftsmanship. There were unusual candles, holders, note cards, and wooden scenes to decorate your mantel or table. If you are on the Christmas and holiday circuit, and touring Door County, take about 30 minutes on the way
into Door County and stop at the Mistletoe Holiday House. And the parking
lot is gravel - don't you just love the sound of gravel crunching under
your car tires?! It's country in Door County! |
