Second Story Restaurant
This is a restaurant easy to pass up as you drive up or down on Hwy 42! It really is up on the second floor of the motel, so you really have to look for it.
Second Story Restaurant is good! Under new management in 2014, Second Story Restaurant has improved already with a remodeled interior which is clean, fresh and bright, and an expanded menu that will offer something for all. And the views are still wonderful, sunsets out the window divine! We think you will like it, so stop in and read on.
Park out in front near the lobby of the motel, enter and go up the stairs to the right of the lobby. You will find the atmosphere pleasant, and if you get there anywhere near sunset, the view is absolutely spectacular as the sun comes down over Eagle Harbor's sparkly waters.
We have dined here many times in the past, and went in for lunch under the new version of the restaurant. For those who remember, the salad bar of old is out. But on the newly expanded menu you will find many salad offerings that will satisfy your salad craving!
Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Second Story Restaurant is a unique find because the food is fresh tasting, the service friendly, and the sunsets wonderful! And there are plenty of choices on the menu, so even people with a large group will find something to meet each person’s appetite.
The Menu - Lunch
The Menu is diverse, and will change from time to time, with lots of things. Try a chicken Caesar wrap or A Hot Date (Prosciutto, Chopped dates, Arugula, Tomato & goat cheese). Salad offerings replace the salad bar, but offer the house salad, a Santa Fe salad (grilled chicken breast, roasted corn corn, black bean salsa, scallions, cheddar cheese, sour cream and tortilla chips on spring greens), Apple Walnut and others.
From the grill there's a portabella mushroom sandwich (balsamic marinated with crispy fried onion rings) on a tasted Brioche bun, or a Triathalon Patty Melt (with Angus beed). There are wraps and stacked sandwiches too like a BLT, a chicken wrap, a BBQ pulled pork stack and more.
There's a whole dinner menu with a ton of offerings, and they will introduce summer menus too that can have up to 15 additional items - so always check their menu pages: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Remember to always check here for what's on the menu now!
Our reviewers ordered a hearty salad and a Portabella mushroom sandwich.
Ths salad offering at this time salad was more than ample with lots of ingredients it was loaded. We got the blue cheese dressing which was very good. Our reviewed wanted more dressing, and it was cheerfully supplied.
The Portabellas sandiwch was very good. We ordered fruit instead of fries, which was a nice option. The sandiwch was piled high and looking good. First bite - just right on the intensity of the balsamic which can be overpowering. It wasn't. We liked it. Fruit was fresh and delicious.
When we finished, we introduced ourselves to Kristy, the owner/manager and asked her to tour the kitchen and meet the chef. We did. Seth, the chef, has a culinary degree from St. Louis and had chefed at a great restaurant in Vail Colorado, which one of our reviewers had coincidentally dined at several years ago when he was there.
If you plan to eat dinner here, try to time it to catch a sunset! Of course, 30 minutes or so before the sun is really setting, the light pouring in is very strong - so the semi-transparent blinds will be lowered - but not to worry! They always raise them for the sunsets – you cannot miss an opportunity to see one of Door County’s unique sunsets. So next time you are in Door County, stay at the Ephraim Shores Motel, and dine at the Second Story Restaurant! Enjoy! One of the best elevated views of the water for any restaurant in Door County.
