Food/Dining : Fish Creek Harbor Fish Market & Grille
The location used to be the Frontier Bar, and, they did keep the bullet holes in the original tin ceiling - you might want to ask about the story of Lanny Nelson. The original bar still stands, and when they chose to extend the bar about another 10 feet, they hired a professional woodworker who matched the bar perfectly. The new end of the bar is to the right as you sit at the bar and face the beveled mirroring – but you'd never be able to tell! The focus is fresh seafood, and this is the only restaurant in Door County that we know of that has live lobster flown in ready for your enjoyment. The Harbor is definitely in the fine dining experience realm in price and offerings, but "fine" is the operative word. We loved our experience here and will return again and again. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner here now, so there is no excuse not to try out Harbor Fish Market & Grille. You can see sample menus on our www.DoorCountyDining.com site. Breakfasts include reasonably price offerings like Eggs Benedict, a Veggie Quiche, Seafood Omelet and much, much more all between about $7 and $14. Lunches include sandwiches like a Grilled Ahi Tuna, some quiches and wraps, salads and a "catch of the day." So there are lots of choices ranging from about $9 - $14. Dinners Here we'll focus mostly on the dinner menu. From creative appetizers like ½ dozen oysters on the half shell, a jumbo shrimp cocktail, walleye cakes, escargot and more - you will enjoy! Entrees all include a baked potato and fresh vegetable (unless other starch is indicated). You can get an Ahi -Sashimi yellow fin steak, blackened rare; Rock Lobster, Salmon, grilled with cucumber-dill sauce, pasta, pork tenderloin, a filet, prime rib (3 sizes), King Crab legs, a surf and turf offering, Lake Perch, scallops and more! You will find something that you will just love. Dinners range from about $20 - $40, and of course, you can add appetizers, sides, and desserts. Ahh - desserts! Ask your server what's fresh for today - the desserts change. Always check with their website for current pricing and offerings. The wine list had a wide selection of whites and reds, with a wide range of price points too - so you can find something good and reasonable too. Fish Boil, Schmish Boil - How about a Lobster Boil! Don't get us wrong - we love traditional Door County fish boils - with white fish from the Lake! And there are plenty of good places to get the traditional boil. But at Harbor Fish Market & Grille, they have taken the "boil" concept to a new level. How about a lobster boil?! Almost every Friday night, they run one awesome lobster boil, with 1 1/2 pound lobsters in the pot! And you get lots of extras too, like lobster bisque, baby red potatoes, corn on the cob, fresh mussels and clams, and home made bread pudding. Call ahead to make sure - it gets crowded too so definitely call ahead. New Late-Night Fish Shack In Summer 2008, they have added The Fish Shack - a late night lounge featuring martinis, food, music and romance from 10PM - 2AM, Tuesdays through Saturdays, right at the Harbor Fish Market & Grille! They will have specials as well. See our entry for The Fish Shack on our BLOG! Our Experience We tried some appetizers (loved the oysters - Blue Points are terrific) - very fresh, very tender, some fish offerings for dinner (Ahi, salmon - we loved them), soups, and of course some desserts. The wait staff was efficient, friendly and helpful. The ambiance, just terrific. And while you are waiting for your table, you can enjoy a drink at the original bar just in front of the dining room. They have it all together at Harbor Fish Market & Grille! We enjoyed everything about Harbor Fish Market & Grille. Open year round, 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it is fine dining; and, in season, you can sit outdoors and enjoy the view as well. We know you will find your dining experience here a delight! Enjoy – and please tell them that you found them on DoorCountyNavigator.com and DoorCountyDining.com!
