![]() Food/Dining : Fish Creek Gibraltar Grill A new entry in 2005, Gibraltar Grill is housed in a fresh, clean and architecturally pleasing building on the north end of Fish Creek, across from Homestead Suites.
The feel is casual, but refined. Gibraltar Grill had originally offered mainly sandwiches, like lo-carb veggie , perhaps some wraps, a Gibraltar Burger, an Angus steak sandwich, veggie burger, grilled chicken and a “stromboli” – said to be “the largest sandwich in Fish Creek.” It’s a sandwich with spicy or mild Italian sausage, pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and onions. It, like most of the sandwiches, is served with a pickle and a cup of cole slaw. They also offer either a Caesar or a spinach salad (could order it with chicken). For beverages, they have soft drinks, Starbucks™ coffee, beer, and wine by the glass or bottle. Thin-crust pizzas were available in 9, 12 and 16 inch sizes. The limited kids menu included chicken nuggets, a hamburger, corn dog and grilled cheese. Deserts included soft-serve ice cream and some sundaes. And Now . . . More! It’s Dinner Time! To their credit, with feedback from patrons and others, they have added some wonderful dinner entrees that go way beyond the sandwich concept. For dinner now, you can choose for some appetizers, like Maryland Crab Cakes, Honey Sesame Chicken and more. Dinner offerings now include a New York Strip, a Filet, Center Cut Pork Chops, a Fish Creek Pasta – which is comprised of Penne pasta, mushrooms, onions and peppers, with a choice of Alfredo or marinara sauce, and cheese. You can add grilled chicken too. Then you can choose from a Grilled Salmon, a Walleye , or a Seafood Dinner. Add a house salad or a Chef’s soup to complete your meal! Dinners come with garlic bread. We like that they took feedback from customers and took action on it immediately – this is a great sign of a very customer-focused enterprise. Our Meal We ordered a variety: a kid’s hamburger, a grilled chicken and the storable. With the refined look of the place and pleasant atmosphere, we did not anticipate our selections showing up in a plastic yellow basket, with a paper separating the meal from the basket. The basket held the sandwich, the pickle slice, and a plastic tub of cole slaw. We just thought the atmosphere of this place is so well thought out and executed, that a plate would be better. We are happy to report that at our last outing, a late lunch just around 4PM, we dined outdoors and our selections came on a nice white plate! The kid’s hamburger tasted fine, texture and appearance were fine, and it was a decent size (maybe like a quarter-of-a-pounder) for about $5. It came with fries and a soft-serve helping of ice cream. So this was a good deal. The grilled chicken came with a small slice of tomato, the tub of cole slaw, and was served on a toasted bun. This reviewer also ordered a side of fries, which was large. Lastly, we ordered stromboli – and it was as described on the menu – it came in four sections, was fairly large, and very tasty – certainly the most creative of the sandwiches. Served with a pickle (an odd choice for an accompaniment with Italian sausage), and the cole slaw. In general: The fries were golden, crisp and delicious. Service was very good, and our meals came out fast – and we were there on a Friday evening. We spent $27.54 for the above, with 2 soft drinks. Plus tip. For the way the place appears from the outside and inside, it begged for more – and they have responded with the new dinner offerings, plates and additional upgrades. It has already morphed into something better than when we first visited – kudos to the owner, who we met with and discussed some of our initial concerns! We can see that this is a good family place: the food is good, there’s plenty of parking, and the service was quick. Though we did not sample the pizza, the one we saw walking by looked good. The owner is dedicated to making this plac ebetter and better - and it is evident with every stop. They will be opened limited hours in the winter too – which is always nice to see. And they have added a fish fry on Friday evenings – so check with them if you are interested in this. We think this place could be special. A lot of effort was put into building this place and making it look wonderful. We love that the owner shifted gears already to make the place even better! We think that shows his genuine interest in serving customers. this is a comfortable place to dine for all - families or not. And you can din eindoors or out - we like to have that choice. As the business grows and refines itself, we are sure the menu offerings will continue to be upgraded and refined – he has, as we have said, already demonstrated his willingness and dedication to make things better. How about a grilled chicken wrapped in prosciuto with melted provolone and spicy mustard? And, if you want to order a pizza-to-go (take-out), then print out this coupon below and bring it in to Tom and the staff - and save a little money! Family fare in a wonderful family-friendly setting. We have confidence in the owner and this place! Open May – October, with limited winter hours too you can get lunch and dinner here, and even carry-outs. So give Gibraltar Grill a try and tell Tom and the staff that DoorCountyNavigator.com sent you! |
