Door County Trip Inquiry

Little Sweden
8984 Hwy. 42
Fish Creek
920-868-9950

Experience the Door Peninsula’s Scandinavian heritage and natural beauty when you say at the 80-acre Little Sweden resort.

Little Sweden, 8984 Hwy. 42, is tucked into a hillside in Fish Creek. It affords vacationers with an opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of amenities right on the resort (golfing, hiking, swimming, the list goes on and on) as well as a location convenient to shopping, dining, entertainment and state parks.

Lovely lodging
First, you’ll have to decide on the type of accommodations. And you can’t make a mistake. That’s for sure. These are lovely, professionally decorated and well-maintained properties—all with spectacular views of the hillside, golf course, gardens and more.

Available are 24 log villas (each with two bedrooms) 10 one-bedroom suites in the Village and two penthouses, also in the Village.

Log villas – two bedroom deluxe units
The log villas (two bedroom deluxe units) offer 1,900 square feet of space on two levels.  Each villa can sleep up to eight people. Included are two bedrooms each with a double full-size bed.  Each is connected to a bathroom. This makes it nice for two adult couples to stay together and still maintain privacy.

A living room has a Door County native stone woodburning fireplace (firewood is stacked neatly in the attached garage).  Other amenities are a queen-size sofa sleeper and television with DVD/VCR tucked inside a cabinet.

The living area opens to a fully equipped kitchen---tableware, cookware, and appliances, everything you need.  There’s a stackable washer and dryer near the foyer, as well.

The nearby dining area connects to a four-season room. This is a perfect place to check out the spectacular view of the woods and golf course. You have your own outdoor deck and gas grill, too.

We appreciated the Swedish-style decorating—a blue and yellow color scheme, clean and simple lines on furnishings and light wood finishes for cabinetry and trim throughout the place. Also find bright and creative handpainted rosemaling on the walls.  The exterior, made from half-logs, also recognizes Scandinavian living.

“People will have a Swedish experience while they are here in Door County,” said Kelsey Higgins, the assistant manager.” The little extras—handpainted  rosemaling and stenciling are unique, and we wanted to have that added touch.”

Swedish Village - one-bedroom suites
Speaking of unique, the 800 square foot one-bedroom suites are housed inside an area that looks like a Swedish Village. The building exteriors are painted in bright colors of blue and yellow and stand out from the highway.

Please note that the Village area is also the location for registration and reception (for all accommodations). If you choose a one-bedroom suite, you can park in the large and well-lit parking lot.  The bedroom is furnished with a queen-size bed, and there’s a queen-size sofa sleeper in the living area. So four people are comfortably accommodated here.

There is one bathroom with a shower, and a large whirlpool tub is in the bedroom. The living area has a gas fireplace along with a television and DVD/VCR.  The fully equipped kitchen has it all--appliances, cookware and tableware.

Again, we appreciated the clean and simple Swedish interior design, attention to detail and upkeep of the accommodations.

Penthouse anyone?
But if you are someone who wants to spread out or entertain others during your vacation, think about reserving one of the two penthouses—one called Varmland and the other called Uppland.  Little Sweden has so much to offer!  Varmland, the largest at 3,200 square feet, actually has three bedrooms and two and one-half baths (with two whirlpool tubs). It sleeps eight.

The view, from a wall of floor to ceiling high windows in the living area, is wonderful.  The fireplace is a great way to warm your family or your guests. Also, there’s a fully equipped kitchen with a large breakfast bar and dining able for eight.

Also, discover a master bedroom with a king-size bed and gas fireplace. You also have an office, sitting area, balcony and so much more.

The 2,600 square foot Uppland penthouse (two bedrooms and two bathrooms with whirlpool tubs) also has a great view  from the living area with fireplace.

One bedroom is outfitted with two twin beds, which is nice for kids. The other spacious master bedroom has a king-size bed and gas fireplace. The fully equipped kitchen is adjacent to a dining area, which seats six.

Resort amenities
Get your feet back on the ground and enjoying the amenities at this fine resort. No matter if you are staying for one night, a month or three months, you can partake in it all.

A business area, in the Recreation Center, will keep you connected. It has computer access and high speed Internet.

After business is done, the Recreation Center has, for your enjoyment, an indoor pool, whirlpool and an exercise room with new Precor brand equipment.  We loved the Swedish rosemaling at ceiling height and the rustic pine walls.

Also, find ping pong and foosball tables and an outdoor pool. Nearby, are bikes for taking rides.

But if you prefer to hike, there are three miles of groomed trails on the property.  The golf course is a nine-hole par three. A pond on the course is frozen during the winter for ice skating.  Many more amenities, including tennis courts, sauna and putting green, are detailed in a book you’ll receive at check-in.

People can even rent stuff they didn’t bring. Kelsey showed us a log building housing bike helmets, skis, ice skates, golf clubs and more sports gear.

“There are so many things here, you don’t have to leave. You can stay, and there are so many experiences. It is great for kids, too,” Kelsey says of the amenities.

Little Sweden certainly has a genuine way of saying “Valkommen” (or welcome) to all guests. We believe you will relish this resort, and please let them know DoorCountyNavigator.com sent you “overseas.”
