In downtown Egg Harbor, we discovered a natural food store that is packed with everything you could possible need in the way of natural foods, cleaning products, supplements, organic produce, educational material and lots more! Greens N Grains is your place!

We wandered in to find some papaya extract, which is said to be a natural digestive aid and has helped for years.  We discovered a shop chock-full of all kinds of natural goodies!

So we returned and spent some time with one of the owners, Kathy Navis, and toured the shop and were amazed at how much there is packed in this store!

Kathy says this is a full-service grocery store offering everything from shampoos and toothpaste, wine and beer, produce, frozen meats and a whole lot more.  As we toured the shop, we saw her point – there is an abundance of great stuff in here, from tea, coffee, soups, cereals, flour, juices, soda (no hi-fructose corn syrup), and lots more.

Huge Bulk Section and Gluten-Free Products

In the bulk section, you’ll find 60 – 70 varieties of nuts, grains, beans – some of which are organic.  Bulk is “an economical way to get whole grains, nuts and seeds because there is no packaging involved, they are fresh, and you get the exact amount yu want,” says Kathy.

Down another aisle, you’ll find a remarkable selection of gluten-free products, like pastas, cereals, breads, crackers, chips, cookies, baking mixes, salad dressings, and even gluten-free vitamins.  So if you are local, or traveling and need gluten-free products, you’ve just found your supply at Greens N Grains!

Fresh Local Produce, Breads, Dairy and Coffee, Tea

Kathy told us that she tries to source as much local produce as possible (like near 70%).  The fresh produce includes vegetables like greens, peppers, spinach, kale, herbs, squash, onions, garlic, cucumbers, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes  and beets.  Then an assortment of fresh fruit (not grown locally) like apples, bananas, pears, peaches and grapes are available.  Naturally (pun intended), the fruits and vegetable selection changes with the seasons.

The breads offered include bread made with local, organic wheat (from Washington Island) – so pick up a delicious and healthy loaf of artisan brick oven bread!

In the dairy section you will find organic raw (non-pasteurized) cheeses, tofus, soy milk, and plenty of non-dairy cheeses and goat cheeses; even goat milk, goat yogurts and local organic eggs are waiting for you.  In addition to the natural benefit of these foods, some of these offerings may be suitable for lactose intolerant folks – ask first.

Greens N Grains carries only organic and fair trade coffees from Alterra™ (a Milwaukee roaster).  And there is half-an aisle full of medicinal, herbal and green teas for your enjoyment.

Frozen Section

In the frozen section, you will find an abundance of tempting selections.  Organic ice cream, locally grown free-range chicken, nitrate-free bacon, frozen pizza (some even gluten-free, or dairy free or soy free).  You will find organic pasture raised chicken, beef and even yak (which is lower fat); wild sockeye salmon and more.  Kathy tells us that the salmon is caught, processed and vacu-packed right on the boat – that’s fresh!  You’ll also find veggie burgers and even ToFurky™ - a meat free product.  So buy some and cook some up for a healthy and tasty meal for all!

Supplements, Cleaning Supplies, Shampoos and More

Greens N Grains carries a full line of supplements including protein powder, vitamins, herbs, Omega-3 fatty acids, cleanses, essential oils, tinctures and just about anything else you can think of – even kid supplements.

And speaking of kid supplements, you will find a selection of organic baby foods, chemical-free baby skin products, baby oil, and diaper creams.  Greens N Grains has you covered!

In the back of the shop, you will find books on nutrition, diets, cooking, reference books like on herbal and natural medicines, yoga and other Eastern spirituality.  CDs, DVDs are shelved and waiting – self-help, yoga, world music and an whole array of eclectic music from modern, new age and even Celtic.

In addition, you will find yoga props: mats, blocks, straps.  Even incense, gifts and unique note cards adorn the back part of the shop.
