Westwood Shores Waterfront Resort
Westwood Shores is another waterfront resort managed by Greg and Denise Stillman of Foremost Management.
They also manage the Newport Resort in Egg Harbor, and The Inn at Little Sister in Sister Bay (check out our recent reviews)!
Westwood Shores Waterfront Resort is located just a few miles North of Sturgeon Bay on the popular and beautiful Bay Shore Drive. Westwood Shores installed all new mattresses, bedding and pillows - they keep getting better. In spring 2012 they just installed new microwages (more powerful). We met with management a bit ago and they told us that in winter 2012 - 2013 they installed all new countertops - so improvements keep on coming! You will be pleasantly surprised by the quiet and private location of Westwood Shores. It is neatly tucked in on the shores of the bay with perhaps the best comprehensive view of the lighthouse on Sherwood Point. Yet with all of its privacy and beautifully landscaped grounds, it is only a three-mile drive to Sturgeon Bays Historic Downtown. In fact, as you head South on Bay Shore Drive, you will find yourself on Third Avenue and in the heart of the quaint and friendly shopping district of Sturgeon Bay.
We found the lobby of Westwood to be one of the characteristics that make it so special. The lobby itself overlooks the pool area and beyond the pool is a wall of windows overlooking the water and Sherwood Point. There is a separate parlor room that has a fireplace and television. This room is decorated in a mix of country and nautical furnishings. You’ll find cozy oversized couches, wicker chairs and a glass topped coffee table containing nautical items. The walls of this room are sponge painted and appointed with fishing creels, lures and other country or nautical pieces. It is a very warm and inviting room. We especially liked the curtain rods made of boat oars. The lobby also has a game room and a nice display of quality made T-shirts, hats and sweatshirts available in all sizes including children’s.
The suites at Westwood Shores all have a view of the water. There are 38 suites total with four different styles, one bedroom, premier one bedroom, two bedroom and premier two bedroom. The premier suites are positioned closer to the water and thus a little more expensive. We feel no matter the suite, the view is spectacular!
Each suite has a king sized bed in the master bedroom and a private double whirlpool tub. The one-bedroom suites have a kitchen area with a breakfast island or cocktail bar, depending on the time of day! The island has four high-backed cushioned chairs perfect for casual eating and drinking. The kitchen, as in all the suites, comes fully equipped with everything you need to prepare a quick breakfast or an elegant dinner, including pots, pans, dishes, glasses, microwave, stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker and toaster. With lots of cupboard space and plenty of room, this kitchen a great place to dine or entertain.
The living room has a large three-cushion couch, coffee table, oversized chair and doorway to a private covered balcony with a patio table and two chairs. All the furniture is mission style, as floral patterns find their way into the chairs, couches and bedspreads. Solid colored valances highlight the windows, while the walls are appointed with nautical pictures, many of them local scenes by local artists. Making the living room complete is a fireplace, TV and VCR. These rooms are very cozy and inviting. The bedroom has a king bed, entertainment center with TV/ VCR as well as storage space. It also has a large closet for hanging your belongings. The bathroom is spacious and has a whirlpool bath and shower. The premier one-bedroom suites are situated closer to the shoreline and have two covered balconies, one off the living room and one off the bedroom.
The two bedroom suites have all the amenities of the one-bedroom suites and more! They are nicely laid out to offer the most in comfort and privacy. These suites are perfect for families or adult couples. There is a guest bathroom with a standing shower. The second bedroom has a queen size bed, two nightstands, dresser, ceiling fan, TV/VCR, sitting chair and a great view of the water and courtyard. It also has a larger storage closet and excess to the guest bathroom. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed and personal bath with shower. Highlighting this bedroom is the separate two-person whirlpool tub and nice vanity and mirror.
Both bedrooms are very spacious and offer great comfort and privacy. The two bedroom suites have the same fully equipped kitchens as the one-bedroom suites. In addition, they have a dining area with a table and four chairs that separate the kitchen and living room. The table is situated in front of a large bay window, allowing a great view.
The living room is great! It features two comfy oversized chairs, a large couch, TV/VCR, fireplace, two end tables, and a large coffee table. There is a patio door that leads to a covered balcony that wraps around to the master bedroom. Three large windows draw your attention to a spectacular view of the bay.
We really liked viewing all the suites at Westwood. The hallways and stairwells are fully carpeted. There are lots of windows letting the sunshine in for a bright and airy environment. The stairwells have hanging chandeliers and warm sitting rooms with two wicker chairs giving the building a comfortable B&B feel. Although Westwood Shores is a resort of only 38 suites, its amenities will rival and perhaps surpass many larger resorts you may have stayed in.
The two pools are worth pointing out for their splendor and uniqueness. The indoor pool is located in a very large room that features a large bank of windows on the West wall providing an awesome view of the water and Sherwood Point. There are plenty of chairs and tables, which can be arranged to accommodate larger groups or families. There is a sauna, and a whirlpool big enough for at least twelve adults. You will also be impressed by the large mural on the walls of this room, which was done by local artist Georgia Rankin of Sturgeon Bay. It is a scene of the lighthouse on Sherwood Point and adds to the breathtaking views of the indoor pool area.
The outdoor heated pool is unique for its location on the waterfront. Literally, it is situated right on the shore and has lots of lounge chairs and umbrellas making it a unique place to hang out and enjoy the sounds of the water and the great outdoors! Adjacent to the outdoor pool is a great shorefront picnic area with gas grills and tables - perfect for a family picnic! Other great amenities Westwood Shores has to offer include a sand beach, exercise facility, paddle and rowboats, guest laundry facilities, video game room and two conference rooms that can accommodate up to 60 people, equipped with various audio-visual equipment.
Westwood Shores is a totally smoke-free environment. Children under 12 stay free and they are always running seasonal specialty packages and honeymoon packages.
